What’s closed for New Year’s Day, Dec. 31, 2021-Jan. 1, 2022, in the LA area – Daily News

Government offices — city, county, federal and state — and superior courts and libraries are normally closed for New Year’s Day, Jan. 1. Since New Year’s Day falls on a Saturday in 2022, most government offices and other services are closed, have holiday or limited hours on Dec. 31, 2021.

Here’s a sampling of government offices and other services that are closed or have altered schedules.

Banks: Banks are closed on Jan. 1. Financial markets are open on Dec. 31, but bond markets close early on New Year’s Eve (www.nyse.com/markets/hours-calendars).

Libraries: Los Angeles Public Library locations are closed on Dec. 31-Jan. 1 (www.lapl.org/holiday-closures). Los Angeles County Library locations are also closed on Dec. 31-Jan. 1 (lacountylibrary.org).

Mail: The U.S. Postal Service delivers mail on Dec. 31. Regular mail will not be delivered on Jan. 1 (“Priority Mail Express” will, however, be delivered on Jan. 1 in limited locations and with an extra fee assessed). Post offices are closed on Jan. 1. Transit: Buses and subway services in Los Angeles run on a Saturday/holiday schedule on Jan. 1 (www.metro.net). For example, the G Line (formerly the Orange Line) schedule is here: bit.ly/3GWS2k4. Metrolink: Metrolink trains run on a Sunday schedule on Dec. 31 (the federally-observed holiday for New Year’s Day). However, no trains will run on the Ventura County or Riverside lines on Dec. 31. Trash: Trash is picked up on a regular schedule on Dec. 31 (more information on Los Angeles Sanitation and Environment, 800-773-2489; click on What We Do, then Collection, and then see Holiday Trash Collection here: www.lacitysan.org). Trash pickup will also be on a regular schedule in the cities of Calabasas (www.wm.com/us/local/ca/calabasas/residential); Burbank (818-238-3800; bit.ly/3yvi8r3) and Glendale (818-548-3916; bit.ly/3p1In2D).
