Severe weather ripped through Little Rock Wednesday afternoon and the damage was felt at the Little Rock Zoo.
I got a note from a friend about that time that he believed a small tornado had just passed him near the Daily Fitness Center in War Memorial Park across the street from the Zoo. It’s unclear yet if this was a tornado or a severe thunderstorm, but it drove Zoo employees to cover with animals and left damage behind.
From Zoo director Susan Altrui:
The Little Rock Zoo will be closed on Thursday, April 14, 2022, for clean-up from the severe weather that passed through Little Rock on Wednesday afternoon. We sustained some damage and lost a few trees. ALL of our animals are safe and well.
As we clear our paths and make a few repairs, we will assess the entire Zoo. The safety of our guests, staff, and animals is our priority, so we must be thorough. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Updates will be available through our Zoo Facebook page
