♪ We got two sodas and chicken. ♪ (upbeat music) – Yo, what’s up? Hello, my name is Kitty Joseph. We are here today in my home, my humble aboard and we’re going to one of my favorite fast food restaurants of all the time. And it’s (drum beats) – Popeyes. You’ve got to try everything on the menu and I’m gonna tell you my favorite things and also my least favorite things. So stay tuned, we got to order this. ♪ Let’s get into it. ♪ ♪ I’m about to order Popeyes let’s get into it ♪ (dramatic music) – My favorite time to eat at Popeyes is when I’m a little drunk. You know what I’m saying? So usually back in the day, you know, when we could go out Friday, Saturday, Sunday night. Go to the bar, pour up, get a couple of drinks in me, you feel nice, you know? And the only thing that’s open in bed style at 2:00 AM is Popeyes. So, the first thing we are going to eat is the spicy chicken sandwich. I wasn’t able to try this the first round because the line was always too long and I’m not about to wait in a line for no chicken sandwich. It was never that serious. (background music) – You’re getting every layer of texture in here. You got the nice softness from the bottom. You got the crispness from the chicken, right? And you also get that crispy, that little crunch from the pickle and then the spicy mayo that is that. It’s just… (screaming) – It just blends it all together. This is like the perfect trio or quadruple. (groaning) (beeping sound) – It is good. And one more thing, right, after trying Chick-fil-A spicy chicken sandwich and after trying Popeyes chicken sandwich, I would say I prefer Popeyes chicken sandwich, just because one, you get that spiciness from the mayo, right. Two, I like my chicken fried hard, you know. if you’re trying to get down, this is where it’s at. I never actually had Popeyes popcorn shrimp before, just because I don’t know, it’s mad, tiny, it’s cute or whatever but, I’m a grown man. Why the hell? Am I eating a little baby shrimp. Here we go. Get that thing in there. (dramatic music) – Wow. You know, like it’s not bad, but it’s not great. Like, come on, look at this. Come on its… You see that? You see, you see my eyeball is bigger than that. So this is more of an appetizer. You know what I’m saying? Like this is like… I would never order this bite. If you chilling around a bunch of your friends and your about to have a little function together, you know, you get a bunch of these and throw it on a plate and you know, a little cocktail dipping sauce, I guess and you just dip it. But if I’m hungry, I’m not ordering this. (dramatic music) I always get this. I actually never done this before. I never put on sriracha Popeyes chicken. I usually just like tabasco sauce. – But, the Grubhub delivery guy didn’t wanna get any muscles, so… (background music) (sighing) – They might’ve did something with that. Popeyes you might wanna start carrying your sriracha sauce. This might be a new thing, got to try this at home. Imma say this, right. I normally don’t prefer the breast just because the meat to skin ratio is not right. Right. You get just too much meat. So once you bite into it, you lose all that skin you just ate, right? But when you got a drumstick or a wing, the proportions is perfect, right? You get the right amount of meat along with the right amount of skin. So when you get in… (crunching sound) (sighing) – Bounce. You know what am saying. – If you order my chicken from Popeyes, please drop a comment in the bottom section and let me know why the hell you do that because I don’t understand. Wow. Is the spicy chicken that’s spicy? ‘Cause it’s not to me, so. Here we go, here we go, here we go. (crunching sound) I mean, it’s the same thing as the spicy. It’s just that you just don’t get that little tongue. You know what I’m saying? But I always loved their drum sticks. Again, mad crunchy. Right? You could just see it’s just so flicky. We just whoop, whoop, whoop, aah. So good. Last but not least the chicken tenders. Its a nice size. You know what I’m saying? It doesn’t seem to be fried as hard as the chicken breasts or the drumsticks, but we’re gonna try it out. We’re gonna taste it. (crunching sounds) – No, again, this is not bad, but it’s not great. It’s not the same as this or the chicken sandwich. Because it’s missing a bone. You’re not getting all that flavor from the chicken. It’s not reaching its full potential. So I mean, it’s cute. Like I would give this to like, if I had a kid… Pray to God, I don’t, anytime soon. This is what I would wanna give it. What kind of chicken are they using for this? And what kind of chicken are they using for this? ‘Cause it’s a huge difference. This is like hmm, hmm, no That’s it for round one. If I had to choose out of all of these things, it’s a tie between the chicken combo classic and the spicy chicken sandwich. (dramatic music) We got the hot sauce, but we didn’t get the jelly. And I’m kind of sad that I didn’t get any sugar or jelly. Alright. So we’re about to dig in on this Cajun rice dish. (background music playing) – This tastes like cardboard box. Like if you could make rice out of the cardboard box, this is what it would taste like. (background music playing) – String beans. (background music playing) – If am being honest, this is definitely not for me. It doesn’t have no flavor. It tastes like they just poured the candy into a pot and just boiled it. Not doing that – Mashed potatoes. (background music playing) I could rock with it. Fry was dying to have mashed potatoes. This would pass. The gravy isn’t strong enough, it doesn’t have a lot of flavor to it but… (background music playing) – You know, they’ll do. The red beans and rice. There we go. (background music playing) – There’s a little spice to it. You know what I’m saying? Like not too bad. You know, if you want to do spicy rice, this is definitely for you. This is fresh. I rock with this. Imma tell you right now, I’m not a big fan of coleslaw. And I don’t have to eat it, I won’t but since we ordered it we will try it and here we go. (background music playing) – Its just not for me. I don’t know why people like coleslaw. There’s nothing about this that will make me wanna pay five 29 to eat this. Nothing about it. Now (crampling sound) – To two greatest sides that Popeyes has to offer is a biscuit and a fry. (background music playing) – Popeyes fries is always a solid choice after you finish your chicken and eat your biscuit, this is kind of like the knockout, that Cajun flavor, that black pepper always hitting, again, a little hint of spice, you can’t go wrong. – I wanna eat this biscuit, but I also know, eating a Popeyes biscuit without jelly it’s kind of like, what the hell are you doing? What was the point? I’ll eat it but it cannot pass through. (background music playing) – Here we go. Even though there’s no jelly and this is hella dry, it’s still good. It’s nice and buttery. The crust is flaky, it smells good. But, it needs jelly. Out of all these things I feel like, the only two sides you ever need is fries and the biscuit and that’s it. All these other things if I had to choose, I might go with the rice and beans. Might. (groaning) – Let’s order chopsticks now. Man… (background music playing) – this (beeping sound) – Hitting. (dramatic music) – Round three. So lemme try it. (background music playing) – Yup. That’s sweet tea for sure. (background music) – Yeah. This is very good. (background music playing) – I never really ordered this sweet tea, but it’s better, it’s perfect. Hey man Perfect flavor and perfect balance. You still get to taste the ice tea. I believe this might be the unsweet tea. (groaning) (beeping sound) (clattering sound) – This is also a sweet tea. So they got my order wrong, but hey, they gave me two and I’m not really mad at them for that. Next up, we have, (chuckling) – The cinnamon apple pie. This is amazing, it is beautiful, it is gorgeous. Ooh. Could you can see the cinnamon on top. Hmm. Nice and crunchy. You hear it? This would be a good ASMR video, but you know what I mean? You get that apple pie. It looks amazing. (background music playing) – Let’s dive in (background music) (clattering sound) – Nice and crispy, golden Brown, just enough sweetness in the apple pie where it’s just a nice balance of that and nice warm appleness along with the crispiness from the outer shell so that was good, that was fire. And last but not least, we got the banana pudding and I’m opening the pudding so here we go. (beeping sound) (screaming) – This is so refreshing. They did something with this. The whipped cream, nice and cool. It gives you that nice whip. ‘Cause you got the crust at the bottom, loving it with the banana and then the cool whip… Come on, come on with the vanilla wafer. Alright, let me chill out this. I’m getting older and I shouldn’t be a lot of sugar. Out of these three, which is kinda, They’re all very different from each other. One’s a liquid, one’s a pie and one is a pudding. The pudding is fire, even though it’s pretty small, it’s fire. I think this is definitely one of the greatest desserts I’ve eaten at Popeyes. So you are at Popeyes… Why do I just keep saying that. You are at Popeyes definitely buy this. (dramatic music) If I had to choose my top three things, it would be the chicken sandwich, the biscuit… I’m upset that they didn’t give me strawberry jelly, but what can you expect from popeyes. And the last thing I would choose the sweet tea kind of surprised me. Okay. It was pretty good, it was pretty good. But the banana pudding, (whimpering sounds) you can never go wrong with banana pudding so, those are my favorite three things from that list. (clapping) (sighing) – I did it. Popeyes has big expansion plans for 2022.The chicken chain is set to open more than 200 new locations in the United States and Canada this year, the company announced Tuesday. Popeyes also said it will launch additional locations in several other places around the world, including in South Korea, France, India, China and the United Kingdom.Over half of the new Popeyes locations that are scheduled to open in 2022 will feature double drive-thrus, designed to get customers through the queue faster.Speedy drive-thru times are very important to fast food restaurants. If a customer gets held up in a Popeyes’ line, they might go to a competitor next time — and on the flip side, consistently fast service can drive loyalty. Tech improvements are also coming to Popeyes’ kitchens to help employees in the back of the house work more efficiently.A handful of the new restaurants will be in New York City, including a new flagship location in Times Square as well as others in Manhattan and Staten Island.The Times Square restaurant, set to open in June around the brand’s 50th birthday, will include special features such as a new design, branded merchandise, self-serve kiosks and some type of 21st-century dumbwaiter described as a “two-story food transporter” for customers dining on the second floor.Popeyes has already been a growth driver for parent company Restaurant Brands International, which also owns Burger King and Tim Hortons. RBI is hoping to spur even more growth with the expansion investment.”Popeyes is one of the fastest-growing brands within RBI, particularly as it relates to building new restaurants,” Popeyes president Sami Siddiqui told CNN Business. “The majority of growth is expected in the U.S. and Canada, where the business has accelerated substantially.”Siddiqui’s comments echo those made by RBI CEO Jose Cil earlier this year. “Development remains a key priority … for the brand for long-term growth,” Cil said during an analyst call in February. “We’re just scratching the surface on opportunities for Popeyes, and I firmly believe that the brand is poised to become one of the fastest growing in the industry.”Chicken-fueled growthCil’s comments are reflected in Popeyes’ performance during the pandemic. It’s been a jewel in RBI’s portfolio, especially when compared to the challenges its other brands faced early in the pandemic.In 2020, sales at Tim Horton restaurants open at least a year fell by 17.5%, and sales at Burger King spots open at least a year dropped 11.1%. By contrast, Popeyes sales jumped 17.7% in that same period, thanks in part to customer interest in the chain’s chicken sandwich.Last year, Tim Hortons and Burger King bounced back. Sales increased 12.5% at Tim’s restaurants open at least a year, and 15.9% for the same category of stores at Burger King.Popeyes also saw improvement in 2021, though it was more modest after its gains in 2020: Sales at restaurants open at least a year rose 7.3% last year. Popeyes opened 208 new restaurants throughout 2021, making it “a milestone year,” Cil said in February.
