NWA Naturals host home opener Tuesday night at Arvest Ballpark



The home opener for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals is Tuesday night.The first pitch of the 2022 season at Arvest Ballpark is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Check the latest forecast here.This is the Naturals’ first season under new manager Chris Widger. Widger has 10 years of minor league experience and comes from the Quad Cities River Bandits, the Royals’ High-A affiliate in Iowa. He was named Minor League Manager of the Year last year.”I think I’m a players’ coach,” Widger told 40/29 News in an interview this year. “My personality is still as a player. I haven’t played for 16 years but I still feel like a player. I remember how hard it was to go out there every day and perform and the pressure you put on yourself.”Southpaw Asa Lacy is expected to make his debut in the game. Lacy is the top pitching prospect in the Royals’ organization.The Naturals will welcome fans with “Buck A Brat” night at the ballpark.General manager Justin Cole talked with 40/29 about how the team has survived a rough two years under the pandemic.”We set the bar purposefully pretty low but we were two or three times higher on attendance than we thought we could get,” Cole said. “There were certain parts of our business that couldn’t rebound, you know, big groups weren’t buying tickets in big blocks and things of that nature. But a lot of families came out and had fun.”
